Alexander Michalek Receives 2025-2026 Honorific Fellowship

April 24, 2025

CEE graduate student Alexander Michalek has been awarded the Wallace Memorial Fellowship for the 2025-26 academic year.  Founded in 1930 by the bequest of Bonnie Wallace LeClear, this fellowship acknowledges Alexander's distinguished work in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

In his nomination letter, Alexander’s advisor, Prof. Gabriele Villarini, wrote, “Alexander’s doctoral research so far has been described in nine first-author papers published in some of the best journals in our field including Nature Communications, Geophysical Research Letters and Earth’s Future (and one more as a co-author). He has three more manuscripts under review (one as first author), and five additional manuscripts in preparation (three as first author). ...I honestly cannot think of anybody else in our field that would even get close to Alexander’s productivity both in terms of quantity and quality!”

Honorific fellowships recognize outstanding performance and professional promise, and represent high commendation from the Princeton University Graduate School.
