Going underground for a climate solution

Hoping to help fix the Earth's atmosphere, Professor Catherine Peters recently found herself 4,100 feet underground in the Homestake Mine, a defunct South Dakota gold mine being transformed into an underground science laboratory.
Eric Wood Awarded the 2010 Jule G. Charney Award from AMS

Eric Wood has been awarded the 2010 Jule G. Charney Award from the American Meteorological Society "for pioneering contributions to understanding the role of land surface heterogeneity in the coupled water and energy balance of the Earth surface". This is the highest award given to hydrologists by the AMS.
Elie Bou-Zeid Awarded the 2009 Latsis Prize

Elie Bou-Zeid has been awarded the 2009 Latsis Prize "for fundamental contributions to the understanding of atmospheric turbulence and the representation of temperature and humidity in numerical simulations of the atmospheric boundary layer". This prize is awarded by the EPFL in Lausanne to recognize scientific work of particular excellence from all EPFL research areas.
